Jonathan studied medicine at the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa, and then read PPE at Balliol College, Oxford while on a Rhodes Scholarship. He subsequently completed MSc and PHD degrees in Health Economics at the University of London. Jonathan’s career in healthcare includes a period serving as Special Advisor to the Minister of Health of South Africa in the first post-apartheid administration.
Prior to joining Discovery Health 15 years ago, Jonathan was a founding director of a healthcare private equity and venture capital firm which he led for 7 years. Alongside his private sector interests, Jonathan maintains a strong engagement with South African and global public health and policy affairs. He served for 5 years on the first Technical Review Panel of the Global Fund against AIDS, TB and Malaria, including 2 years as Chair of the Panel. Jonathan also serves as a member of the Council of the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa.
